How do soft earthworms manage to penetrate deep into the same solid ground that i regularly break my shovel on

Question:

Answers:
they can, and do, eat the soil if it is hard, and then move into the space, the soil passes through their digestive system.

They take a shortcut.
interesting ,,,,mabe they eat it and poo it out the other side...lol
They have real good teeth!

Sorry mate, I don't know the real answer - but I couldn't resist that one! Have fun finding out!
Practice Practice Practice. They've been practicing for hundred of thousands of years...if not longer.
They hum a tune, causing their tiny bodies to vibrate at exactly the correct resonance to shake the ground apart in front of them... If only we could understand their wormy music... Titchmarsh could have dug the euro-tunnel in a week!
they digest the soil as they go thus breaking it apart. try scooping a hole with a tiny microscopic shovel, it will be alot easier than trying to plunge out a huge hole like you do with a standard garden shovel..
