Would it be crazy to put a fishpond in front of a front porch?

Question:Our back yard has nothing in it. Everything is in the front yard.

Answers:
They are beautiful no matter where you put them. My friend had one that enclosed the area between her walkway and her front porch. It was about 3 feet deep and had beautiful flowers and landscaping around it. The fish keep the mosquito larva eaten so there were no more mosquito's than before.
She had to cover it in when she became a foster parent. They do not allow that because of the potential hazard to children.
Keep in mind what kind of people will be in and out of your home - small children pose a greater risk- and then make your determination. If you want to sit on your porch swing and watch the fish then by all means put in the pond and enjoy.

why not, put a little bridge over it for people to get in the house. you could sit on the porch and watch it.
the biggest problem is liability in case a child drowns or gets hurt. you shouldn't have an accessible hazard in your yard. you would need to fence your front yard probably and keep the fence locked.
Very.a liability for one thing (depends on depth I guess), a mosquito breeding ground and place for animals to visit regularly for all sorts of activity!! Back yard could be a more controlled environment.
Who pays the mortgage and takes care of the house? Well then, you do what you want to do in your yard.. just make it pretty
Sounds nice. If planted with aquatic plants and perhaps highlighted at night with lights, could be quite nice. There is a safety issue though, neighborhood kids playing or falling into the water.....just had to bring it up so you keep it in mind. If you make it less visible from the street, then kids might ignore it or forget about it.
not at all, i have 1
You can always "dress it up" with chairs, a swing, flower pots and other accessories to make it a very homely and welcoming scene...
that all depends on what kind of space you have ours is in our back yard & fenced in we only have goldfish koy tend to be expensive you wouldn't want to advertize them try decorating your backyard as well it could be a great place for some privacy& the peace of running water ours is off our deck & biult upwithin a rock wall & have a water fall .Check your local laws & biulding codes they might prohibit you from doing that & look at safety conserns kids can be curious
why not just go crazy and put in a whole moat?? equipped with gators.
Not at all, as long as the fish have shade. And in fact, it's smart to leave your back yard as a blank slate until you are sure what you want to do with it: That means less demolition will be needed when you're ready to work back there.
If you put the pond in the back yard then you'll have something there. You might want to consider what could happen if a small child wandered up to you pond in the front yard. Or the neighborhood hooligans, you know how they love throwing things.
