My dogs killed the lawn!?
Question:my dogs are killing the lawn in my back yard. its in large patches i've tried almost every kind of fertilizer out there. i dont have enough money to keep buying those pills that are supposed to neutralize their pee. any tips on how to get my grass to grow back?
Answers:
You don't need any special fertilizer. Water is the answer to your question. Get your lawn on a regular watering schedule and your yellow patches from dogs will disappear.
I chose the dogs over the lawn. Your grass will comes back with time. Try adding water to where they pee to dilute it.
hm. my dog has the freedom to pee anywhere she wants. so i dont really care if it hurts my backyard lawn. as long as its not the front :D
Its a simple food change. They do have an imbalance of acid and alkaline. I use this food. Its amazing.

Good luck-
Give the dogs a little tomoato juice with their dinner, then the lawn will not be killed as they "use" it. Don't need much juice (at least a few tablespoons for a large dog, but that should do it); it's a very easy, low cost way to solve the problem...and your dog will probably love the juice! As for the dead grass, I think you have to just add some new soil and plant seed.
Bom, neste caso fica difícil uma saída! Rs rs rs rs... Talvês a melhor solução seria educar seus dogs a vazer xixi em um local específico que não seja em cima da sua grama! Huashuadhashuadha...
If you're interested you could try overseeding your lawn with dutch white clover. Clover fixes nitrogen in the soil and always stays green, and greens up anything growing with it (grass). Clover won't burn from pee, either. It needs less mowing, no fertilization and water only once a week or so depending on weather. It used to be a big component of prized lawns before pesticides and herbicides got big in the 50's & 60's.
The pills that you can give the dog to alter the ph of the urine can actually cause kidney stones, so I'd avoid those. The tomato juice cure I read is a myth. You might want to look that one up.
Watering over their pee will dilute it and will help prevent brown spots, but that can be time consuming (watching out the window for every time they go out) and a pain. And grass only needs 1 inch of water a week... which means, if you're going to turn your water on every day, you'll be putting too much on and will cause shallow roots. This isn't healthy for the grass (or our water supplies).
Anyway, I hope you find your solution. It's funny, but when we had dogs in NY and AZ they always were peeing in the grass and I never noticed problems with burning. Maybe different varieties of grass stand up to urine burns better. You could check into that if you don't like the clover idea.
Oh, just want to clarify an above post. Dogs, being carnivores naturally have a more alkaline urine that most animals... that is totally normal and shouldn't be considered an imbalance. Consider the health of the animal and research thoroughly any new food or pill you give for correcting the 'problem'.
Goodluck!
lots of water will dilute the pee
