For the same reason we don't build straight roads.
Sometimes it's just easier to go around...
Bacause the ants follow a scent trail laid down by the first ant to discover the food. That ant was ambling in its search, so the rest amble on the same line.

Who says they don't ? I have seen ant trails in the jungle (leafcutters I believe) that looked really straight to me.
Except for soldiers in a formation, I don't think I've ever seen any creature walk in a straight line. Its just not natural. People don't, just watch them.
