When do you know when to pick cantaloupe?

Question:

Answers:
The best way is by color and smell. You want one that is yellowish in color and smells sweet...I've also heard people say to check the ends, and if they are a bit soft, that's good...but I'm not sure of that. To be honest, I don't think there's a fail proof way to pick a good one, but if it looks good and smells good it probably is good, right?

smell it, if it smells ripe, then it is time to pick it
When the vine attached to the stem of the Cant. starts to die. be sure to gently rotate them, don't break the stem.
