Weed killer before top soil?

Question:I've taken a pick to my backyard, raked the gravel and large weeds out and have it pretty level, do i need to spray some weed killer around or other steps before laying topsoil?

Answers:
RoundUp (glyphosate) becomes INACTIVE when in contact with the soil (Read the label for this information).
You need a pre-emergant weed control herbicide for the soil.

The key to weed control is killing or removing weeds before they produce seeds (when they are young). Some weeds produce up to 500,000 seeds from a single weed!
Use glyphosate when they start popping up.

If you any have unwanted grass or weeds I would spray roundup, or they will pop right up un your top soil.
If you do decide to use an herbicide, read and follow label directions carefully. Most herbcides require a time between application and planting. Reason being that they will kill whatever you plant if you plant too soon. Just read the label and you should be OK.
Round up (glyphosate) will only affect plants if apllied to shoots and leaves. Most weeds wont survive under topsoil . It really depends on what weeds you have. May be apply a pre-emergent herbicide. It will stop most seeds as soon as they germinate.
