How can I keep my artificial stream clean?

Question:I have a stream running between two ponds in my garden and it is full of mud at the bottom although the water is crystal clear due to the two filters we have for the koi. Do you think putting large boulders at the bottom would help, although I have tried the small pebbles and they just get covered in mud. Please can someone help?

Answers:
A bale of BARLEY straw at the upstream entrance

Pebbles and gravel in the stream will also give benefit but they need to be as in nature .. lots of different sizes smallest on the bottom and larger flat one on the top

Slow the rate of water movement will help.
u need a small deep pond somewhere along the length of the stream, towards the end is best. Put some water plants in it to filter to the water as it passes through the pond. That should clear the water in the pond & in the stream.
