When is the best time to fertlize daylilys and what with?
Question:
Answers:
I have never fertilized my daylilies. When I plant them, I put a big handful of aged cow manure in the planting hole. Then I mulch over them and forget about them. My daylilies originally belonged to my great-grandmother 60 years ago. I have found that if you prepare your flowerbeds with compost and organic matter, you don't have to fertilize separately. However, experts (such as my neighbor the Daylily Society member) agree that one month after blooming, composted manure can be added to the soil as a fertilizer. I get mine from a farm, but you can get it from any local store that sells plants.
i fertilize my day-lilies the same time i do the other plants once every 2 weeks with Miracle Grow. they do great.
I have a lot of dayliys in many colors , single & double . I never put any thing on them . They even grow on the compost pile . I gave a clump to a friend , she put them behind some other flowers & forgot to plant them . The've been there for 3 years & going strong . No fertlize or any thing .
Good luck & enjoy yours , I sure do love mine .
