Do you think it helps to talk to your plants? Why or why not?

Question:

Answers:
Read the book 'The Secret Life of Plants'...its amazing what studies have shown about how alive and aware and reactive plants are. I believe plants do pick up on negativity or positivity and respond accordingly, and they experience stress. They even respond to peaceful classical music, and react badly to discordant loud music. I don't so much 'talk' to my plants as I just soak in their peacefulness and let it radiate back to them as appreciation...non verbal...tomato seedlings grow better and stronger if they are lightly stroked...they love it. I might sing to them a little now and then if I am in the mood, but I believe they can sense if something is forced or fake. One thing I love most about my garden is that it CAN'T talk, or require me to. Isn't their enough pointless, inane chatter in your life all day? I prefer the peace.

No, no ears or brain.
I'm usually in the "politics" category, but I was looking for something less volitile. However, "talk to your plants" does seem to be a little "out there". Think I'll keep looking...I'll admit, sometimes I talk to the mirror, but my plants have to talk to each other...or not!
Yes, it does help. It helps because the plants utilize the CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) that comes out of your mouth when you speak to them. It does not so much matter what is said, but speaking to your plants is a good habit that will improve chances of success/harvest. But there you have it, the scientific explanation of why it helps to talk to your plants.
no
Yes.
I agree that it does help to talk to them.
Omer is exactly right. However, I want to add that talking to your plants subconsciously helps you interact better with them. Any type of time spent with them let's you know better how they are growing and what they need. It sounds weird, but talking to, touching, smelling, and even "listening" to them helps you become a better grower.
there are 2 main theories on why talking to your plants work. first is Carbon dioxide.

The second theory is that the vibrations caused by sound waves from your voice stimulate the plant to grow better. With this theory, even placing a small fan in the same room as plants will help them grow better. Tests have been done to prove this theory, and have come back positive, that the plants in the controlled environment with no sound did not grow as well as the room with music, talking and fans.
