What's the best way to get my yard looking great?
Question:I just moved into a 2-year-old house in a subdivision where most houses are 2 years old or newer. We have the absolute worst yard in the subdivision. It has crab grass patches, areas where johnsonsgrass is trying to grow but failing, thin ugly weeds that I've never seen before, all kinds of problems.
Any tips on what products to use? It's the middle of the summer, and we're close to Houston, which means it's hot and humid and rains a lot.
Thanks!

If your lawn is as bad as you say it is, the best thing would be to wait until late summer and start preparing it for a whole new planting. You are going to have to spray the entire yard to get rid of the unwanted weeds and grasses in order to reseed a whole new lawn. The best time to do this is in the fall of the year, after all the heat of summer is gone, but before any freezing temps come. Along about Sept. start spraying "roundup" to kill off all the weeds. It has no residual effect on the soil, and readily breaks down after contact with soil microbes. Once the weeds are dried up, you can then begin to prep the soil for planting. Till it up and level it out, and then broadcast your seed. Cover the seed with peet moss about 1/4 inch thick. Keep it watered and damp throughout the day, which may mean watering 2 times a day so as not to let it dry out. This will be your best bet in order to get that nice green healthy lawn you desire.. Hope this answers your question.

hmm well if its really bad maybe u could redo the whole lawn( like gill it all out then prep it and sew new grass) unless its too late in the season for to grow im not sure theres always next yr. im not too sure about the fertalizer to use tho. ask someone in a store maybe to help u.
I would try Scotts Turfbuilder with weed control. It will build the turf up thick and fast. It will also kill all the bad grass in the yard. You can use a spreader to apply to the lawn. If that doesn't work, try Scotts Weed Killer. It comes in a bottle that you have to attach to the water hose. The weeds will die within a couple days. Hope this helps:)
If it were me I think I would go with stones, gravel, pea pebbles, lanscape timbers and stuff that can be put in and look good immediately. Then put in some green stuff that is hardy to your area, maybe a cactus garden and lots of succulents. They thrive in hot southern climate and require hardly any maintenence. Sedum is pretty and stonecrop. Browse the local nursery or even walmart my staple, and then there's Lowes and home depot. Just have fun doing it..
Spread weed & feed on your yard acording directions & watch it get nice green thick grass & weed free .
Good luck & enjoy the best yard in your aria .
Weed 'n Feed. Fertilize a little bit every 2 days or so. Water well. Reseed bald spots.
