When is the best time of year to plant Tulip bulbs in Ontario Canada ?
Question:Also, are they Annual or Perennial ? If they are Annual, when do they bloom, and do they have to be removed before Winter ? What other plants can I plant in bulb form.I'm specifically looking for amazing colour. Thank you !

Tulips are a perennial. I live in western NY and I've planted tulips anytime in spring-fall and they've always bloomed the next year. They are hardy through winter. In fact, they need to freeze in order to bloom. They bloom in spring (early - late depending on which type of tulip) So, leave them in the ground. For color, plant Lilies (my favorite!), hardy gladiolus, hyacinth... I've ordered from http://www.brecks.com and had good results. If nothing else, their online catalogue is nice and shows a huge variety of beautiful, hardy bulbs.
Plant tulip bulbs in your fall season. Tulips are a perennial, so they will bloom yearly in the spring. After they are no longer in bloom, wait a while before cutting the leaves & stem way down. I'm not sure how long to wait before doing this, but there is a reason to wait, maybe because it allows the nutrition goes back into the bulb for next year. Sounds right! Other perennial bulbs that will give you some pretty color are daffodils, crocuses, grape hyacinths, irises, & gladiolas.
