I have a pink kousa dogwood. Bloomed last summer, very little bloom this year! What's wrong.?
Question:
Answers:
Kousa dogwoods, pink or white, need at least half a day of sun to be prolific bloomers - unlike the native dogwoods which thrive in filtered to no sun. Fertlizers can help, but I would check to see that it is getting the sun needed to keep it blooming. Also, the white kousa is grown from seed making it an unpredictable bloomer. They may bloom in early spring one year and sometime in summer the next. The pink kousa is grafted onto a white kousa trunk, so it may be that every year is going to be a different experience for you. Some years it may be loaded with blooms and the next few it might be very sporadic. Check with your local garden center for more specific information. Good Luck!
Did you get hit with the late freeze that much of the country had in late April?
If so, just wait until next year. That freeze disrupted (and froze) many late spring blooming plants.
