If you live in cooler climate, you will need to dig up the fig tree and bury it into the ground for the winter. With hole already dug, dig around the root system to loosen it up, then push the tree into the hole. Cover it with the dirt, some plywood and plastic. Keep it covered in the ground until the next spring, April in our area or when frost is not an issue. Upright the tree and voila.your tree should bear fruit. Works with our fig tree.
