My lawn has brown spots, areas of dirt, and lots of ants--any suggestions to revive my grass? Thanks!?

Question:

Answers:
first - mow your lawn
2nd lay down a pest killer, it should take care of the ants and anything else killing the lawn
3rd- fertalize the heck out of it
4th - water water water

i would apply milky spore, a natural product that kills grubs that eat grass roots (one cause of brown spots and areas of dirt where the grass is completely gone). i would rake the dead grass out, aerate, seed, feed with 'ringer lawn restore' (a natural fertilizer) and keep moist till the grass took hold. you can get rid of the ants with spiking a few appropriately placed 'ant motels' meant for outdoor ants.
Organic is the way to go! For the brown spots, try Corn Gluten Meal. This should be available at your local nursery. Also throw down some organic mulch.

For ants, you can treat with diatomaceous earth, or a DIY formula called "Garrett Juice" (http://www.malcolmbeck.com/products/garr... Combine 1 cup compost tea, 1 oz molasses, 1 oz natural apple cider vinegar, 1 oz liquid seaweed and 1 oz orange oil. Or order it from Garden-Ville, which also carries an organic insectide (http://www.garden-ville.com/garden-ville...
I would spray the whole lawn with an insecticide. There is a type of lawn moth that makes brown spots, and this would also kill the ants. Then put new grass seed down and water. The best time to reseed is spring or fall, but if it is too hot, the grass doesnt usually do well. Lots of water too.
