Depending on how old you are, you might remember that at one time in your life, you were considered a little pest too.
Lock them in a room
Teach them something new. Read to them. Have them read to you.
i'm going to assume you are not the parent of the child as you didnt call him/her "child" "daughter" or "son"
im going to make the assumption that youre a babysitter (same difference if you're a sibling) and tell you this: threaten them with stuff. tell them there are demons outside and you can only fend them off if they stay completely quiet and wait it out. kids are gullible. be creative.
if you ARE a sibling, lock your door and put passwords on your computer. keep your journal in a topmost shelf inaccessible by climbing over things. hide embarassing things in weird spots like in your sock drawer etc. just outsmart them. its not hard.
Bake some cookies and put them in a giant ball with cookie sized holes in it and let them figure out how to get the cookies out.
have a conversation with them or give them something interesting to do.
Are the neigbor kids playing in your garden? Maybe they just want to know about it, and they aren't being told at home. Before I moved in the neihborhood the kids in this area thought that vegetables came from supermarkets, and didn't have a clue where they were grown. I showed them my garden, let them help (with permission from their parents) and gave them a plant or two to take home. They understand when I need "private time". Because they too do. Try talking with them, or if they're really bugging you, talk with their parents. Just don't be that wierd neighbor lady down the stree that all the kids are afraid of. Because one day you will regret it. I had a lady like that in my neighborhood, and she ended up dying alone with her cats.
