Ok, neighbor just set up tree house overlooking my getaway patio. I need help finding a good tree!!?
Question:I set up that patio in th middle off nowhere so it would be quiet, and then thy rudely set up a large treee hose that overlooks our yard! Does anyone have a good and full tropical tree that would block their view of our yard? It would be good if the foliage was 15 ft high.
Answers:
We planted a weeping willow a couple of years ago and it has grown sooooo fast.
Got it, beautiful whispy flower, small whispy leaves and a small trunk. Get tall and round like a big umbrella:MIMOSA-it will give you what you need without raking in 2 yrs. A weeping willow will get in your water supply and they are huge.
Leylandii.
Grows like wildfire and can easily reach up to 40 feet
Don't know about tropical but a weeping willow or a weeping cherry's foliage spreads out and could block view. But don't plant it around water pipes or septic tanks. They love water and the roots may go after pipes. If not mistaken they grow fast also.
I don't know anyone who has a treehouse now or in the past that has been used for more than a year or two. Of course if you need a tree to keep your house cool then that's a good reason for getting a tree. I'm thinking it would take longer for the tree to grow than that treehouse would be up. Kids these days are into computers and not into treehouses (unless their computer is in there). I know that oaks are huge trees (with really wide bases over time). The house we were in that had many trees, well the trees were maple (and their leaves changed color in the fall so it was nice for the landscape. Some trees are banned from properties (usually because of the root system, it gets into the pipes, sometimes breaks up cement). I'd suggest you contact your county's horticulturist to see what grows easy, fast, and then stays at a certain hight, and ask how much room it will take up and what maintenance it needs, and if it needs food. These hot days now, you might want to also look into a tree that doesn't need a lot of water, or perhaps a tree that is native to your area.
btw, a weeping willow searches for water, gets into pipes (so you'll have plumbing problems eventually and have to have the city come over and clean it out and may be charged for that) and it breaks concrete, even the concrete in the walls of your home. Believe me I know, I grew up in a house that had 2 beautiful weeping willows in the front yard away from the house yet they messed up the pipes and front wall of the house (wall caved in over time)..
Move to a retirement or child restricted community and you won't have to worry about ugly child related items.
Well that was rude of them.
Try getting A Golden Shower Tree
(Cassia). They're very beautiful.
Also, if you're interested, some places sell Privacy Nettings if you want to try that.
