To no avail, I still have "mulberry" bushes/trees coming up in my yard. How do I get rid of them?
Question:Every year, I try to destroy them. If I cut a sprout, it develops into more shoots. If I spray it with weedkiller, that part dies but more baby shoots imerge. If I dig it out, I am exhausted. Can someone tell me a sure fire way to get rid of them? Much obliged to any idea that will expend the least energy!

Here's some different ideas from various people at this site:

"Try using Ortho "brush-be-gone" on it. You cut the plant off at the base and IMMEDIATELY brush the solution directly onto the cut with a paintbrush. I really give it a good soaking, and so far, none of the plants have come back in the treated areas."
"For elimination without chemicals when you pull up these sprouting monstrosities, they break easily, and the (looks to me) tuberous root system re-sprouts multiple trunks. If you keep breaking them off or cutting them down in hopes of killing them, you'll have a crown sending up several young trunks in less than a season. You MUST dig them up, or you're stuck with them. One could almost say that to prompt them to grow, try to kill them."
"I cut off probably 12-15 percent of upper growth of two of the trees last year in Jan, and they produced NOT ONE SEED, while the other trees, which I didn't prune, produced as usual. This doesn't mean that the tuber roots won't retaliate this year. We shall see. But at least no seed from those trees."
Sounds like most people suggest trying to kill the tree or hiring a professional to get it out for you. Goodluck!
This is an easy one. Buy black plastic at the hardware store it is sold in rolls. Plastic bags will not work because they are too thin. Lay the black plastic where the bushes are coming up( use garden pins to hold down the plastic but you could use stones. Then wait, if sunlight does not get to the roots nothing can grow and that is why you use the black plastic. I usually put mulch or stone over the plastic just because it looks better.
