How long should the battery be lasting?

Question:I have a black and decker
12 Volt 10" Cordless Trimmer / Edger and it seems to not be charging all the way. I have plugged it in in a few different spots and let it sit for 24 hours sometimes even more and I do not even get an hours use out of it. How long should it be lasting and is there any chance that the battery can be replaced (I do not think there is but never hurts to ask)

Answers:
All cordless tools have limitations. A hours use or less is typical. Black and Decker is a low end brand. You could buy a extra battery battery that could be charging while using the other.

one never knows who purchased that product and used it and brought it back (after their project was done) only to tell the store that it didn't work right. So maybe someone had it before you did. I'd take it back to the store and ask for another. If that new one doesn't work well I'd complain to the store AND the maker. Maybe it'a made that way, for tiny and short jobs. But if you're still not satisfied, ask for your money back so you could buy a stronger model.
i know that over charging ur battery can deffinatly kill ur battery, u should only charge it for the time the manual says and usually ur supposed to run it all the way dead before charging it again after the first use. so u might have damaged the battery, as for replacement i am not sure!
Ni-Cad batteries are fickled. If you continuously topped off the charge after each use, you could have developed a memory in the battery.

This is where the battery only recognizes a new charge. And if you repeatedly only used 10% of a charge, thats all you are working with now. 10% of the batteries capacity.

The Rat
I've been using a B&D cordless electric mower for the last 10 years. I've had the battery replaced once, and replaced it myself again 2 years ago. I bought the battery thru the B&D website, and followed the instructions I downloaded in a pdf file from the same B&D website. Rechargeable batteries just don't last forever. Then too, it could be your battery is fine and it shouldn't last over 45 minutes. Good luck.
