Question about transplanting a plant?
Question:I am not much of a gardner. . .AT ALL. How to do I transfer small plant/flower into one larger pot. What type of soil do I need? Any tips please. Do I get All purpose potting soil??
What do I do?
I am trying to make my balcony nice and make it my little relaxtion/retreat area :)

Get a good, all-purpose potting soil, and (of course) a larger pot. Don't make it a LOT larger, just the next size up, if you have a choice. Soak the plant well in its existing pot, and turn the pot upside-down, being sure to support the soil ball with your hand (putting the stem of the plant between your fingers is often the best way if there's room under the leaves). Most of the time a plant will come out very easily. If it doesn't, then get an old table knife and run it around the sides of the pot between the pot and the soil to loosen it a bit. This way, as few roots as possible are disturbed.
Put enough soil in the bottom of the new pot to raise the level of the soil ball to the same level it was in the old pot; you don't want more of the stem to be buried as a general rule. Set the soil ball on top of the soil in the new pot, centering it; if you're putting several small plants into a larger pot, just arrange them on top of the soil as you like.
Fill in soil between the soil ball(s) and the new pot, so that the plant is firmly supported. Water the plant (making SURE that it can drain well); if the water has caused some settling of the new soil, you may need to add a bit more soil until the pot is nicely full. After that, keep it out of direct sun for a couple of days; then ENJOY :-)
get yourself a bag of miracle grow,next fill the pot half way put in the plant,then fill the pot with more potting mixture,water,make sure you water them every day for a week or two then every other day,that's all you have to do,but make sure that you get plants that can be in direct sun if they are going to be in direct sun and shade plants if they're going to be in the shade that's all you need to do and add some miracle plant food in the water once a week or so
Well, If the plant you are transplanting, has been in the original pot for a very long time, this will have allowed the roots to grow compact against the wall of the pot, therefor, holding all soil in the pot together very securely, but needing room at the same time.
I suggest the all new Miracle Grow potting mix for transplanting, when you take the flowers out of the pots, just grab the plant by the bottom of the rootstock, and pull, It should all come out a compact rootball, another option would be, if the pot is made of plastic you can take something and split the pot down two sides and pull the plastic away from the roots, thus, without damage to the sesitive rootlets!
