Patch Perfect?

Question:I was wondering if anyone has used this product with good results. Heard that the grass does not last. Also would it work to use first and then put another type of grass seed over it. I have a small patch of yard that is now devoid of grass because of a pool.

Answers:
Those companies mix annual grass seed in with the perennial grass seed to make the spot fill in faster, but then the next year you have skimpy grass.
I suggest that you go to the nursery and ask for the best combination of perennial grass seed for your area, and tell them if it is a shady spot or not. Usually the best combination is at least three different types of seed. Double the amount of seed that they tell you will cover the area.
Then after you put the seed down, put a layer of hay down on top of it. The hay helps keep in the moisture as the seedlings are starting to grow so that they don't dry out and die, and it also helps keep the birds from having a feast on your seed. Also make sure to loosen the soil that was under the pool with a garden rake because it is probably compacted now, and remove all weeds, sticks, stones, etc.
As the new grass grows to a height of a couple inches, then you can remove the hay.
And of course it must be watered every day at first, later every two days.

What you describe is mostly Rye grass. It will die off later so you need to seed it with the same type of grass that is in your lawn, or you can use sod which is quicker, but costs more. Take your pick.
I am so disappointed with this product and the company. I ordered the buy one get one offer and received 5 containers of this stuff. They billed me $117.00 for what I thought would only be $19.95. I used it to fill in the patches and it killed all of the grass in my backyard and left this awful blue residue. Try grass seed and top soil its cheaper and less of a disaster.
I am not sure where you are located, but we have been using Pennington perennial grass seed to replant our backyard after some regrading and leveling that we had done last fall. This stuff is great! It is "Penkoted" which gives the seed an extra boost of fertilizer and makes it less tasty for birds. We are very happy with the seed! Yes, it does take a lot longer to have a beautiful lawn, but as the saying goes, "all good things come to those who wait." That patch perfect stuff is too good to be true!
