I recently planted a penstemon. It has not started to grow. What can I do to remedy this?Ilive in sE Pa.zone 6.?
Question:
Answers:
Penstemon is a perennial and like all perennials will mostly grow roots the first year after planting. Give it time.
The rule of thumb for perennials is
"First year sleep, second year creep, third year leap"
So don't expect a lot of flowers until that third year.
Penstemon is my favorite flower. I can't really tell you anything new except fertilizer
for flowers/watering and waiting. Have you asked a
nurseryman?
The greatest limitation to Penstemon’s survival in the home garden is poorly drained soil, overwatering in summer and wet winter soils.*
Check to make sure the soil isn't soggy, & make sure you're not watering it too much. Penstemons like it sunny & dry.
Good luck!
