It is possible that when the blade stopped so abruptly, the flywheel kept going and sheered the sheer pin, (replace sheer pin). If it's not the sheer pin, then you bent the crankshaft, at that point, game over, send the mower to the funeral parlor and adopt another one.

Make sure the blade is turning when cranking (see if blade turns as you are pulling the rope)(be careful, keep hands out of the way) and check the shear pin. You may have bent the crank shaft.
