Planted a weeping cherry, it looks like it's dying!!?
Question:I planted a weeping cherry tree just this past Saturday. The leaves have since all died. I've watered it everyday. The location is on the side of my house where it has sun during the day and in the evening it has partial shade. I live in Indiana and we live on sand. Is it maybe in shock? I'm hoping this is something it will come out of. Anything I can do?
Answers:
I have a weeping cherry and it's very fickle. More than likely it's just in shock. Keep watering it fairly often for another week or so. Also, keep a real close eye on that tree for japanese beetle infestation. Mine gets hit hard every year, I have it professionally sprayed but Seven (found at lowe's, home depot, etc) works great too. Give it a couple weeks and if it doesn't liven up I'd call an arborist or possibly return it. Most trees have a 1 yr warranty. Good luck to you.
It's not dying...it's weeping... ♥
Oh my - we just bought one and haven't planted it yet. I would like to know the outcome of this.
Thanks for posting.
Just in 3 days?!
Are the branches brittle (=dead) or do they have a little bend ability to them (=live)?
Does the place you bought it have a guarantee?
Either way, take in a sample & or the whole tree if it's already dead, ask them what may have happened.
Now, you didn't leave it in the car when you ran other errands right?
Did you protect it from wind burn & dry out for the trip home?
Have the temps been really high? It's not the best time to plant when temps are above 80. You can buy plants & wait for better planting weather as long as you keep the roots moist.
When you water in the ground make sure the water sinks in & isn't just flowing over the surface.
That really stinks & I hope where you bought it is helpful, cause just 3 days kinda means something was already wrong with it or you did something really harsh to it.
Good Luck
