How do I grow a sweet potato plant? I started it in water by putting a sprouting sweet potato in a glass of?
Question:water. Now it has several sprouts and tiny leaves but the potato at bottom is soggy and soft. Should I bury the whole thing in dirt or cut off the soggy part first. Thanks in advance/
Answers:
Just stick the whole thing in the ground and let it go for it. I have one that was given to me as just a single leaf, some roots and the potato, its now taking over half my garden, has been dug up a few times for harvest and produces nice potatoes. When you want to harvest it, just use a garden fork to dig over the soil gently, when you are finished, just put the vines and leaves back on the ground, dump a shovel full of mulch over it, give it a water and forget about it. 3 months later it will be ready again.
IDK. But i hope you learn soon. Good luck.
Usually you cut a potato into four parts and plant them, keeping it moist until you see leaves start to come up and then you have your plants.
Just plant the whole soggy mess in good potting soil and grow it in a pot outdoors. It needs sunlight to do well. Pinch off the tips of the vines to keep the plant thick and bushy.
Bury the whole thing. You are off to a good start! Good luck. Now it won't survive the winter, so when the time comes you can transplant to a indoor container
