Anyone know about grass? (the green stuff in your garden!)?

Question:i have just moved into a new build house and the builders have arranged for our turf to be laid, we were told at the time that we would have a field drain installed in the garden to drain away excess water but this didn't happen. Now we have the turf laid for around 8 weeks and we are getting loads of mushrooms popping through? Should we get them back to put the field drain in as water is not draining away and don't think its normal to have mushrooms in June?

Answers:
yes get the drain sorted----- mushrooms or toadstools only appear in lawns because of the soil or earth under the turf the existing soil may be contaminated, take an area of turf up and see if mushrooms still spring up,this will tell you if the soil in garden is dodgy or the soil that was with the turf was infected due to laying, correction would be to remove turf and 2feet of existing soil and renew with screened top soil and rolawn turf, theres nothing to spray on mushrooms as the fungi is like a wax and everythink just runs off it,fungi is called mysellium.

Are the mushrooms edible?
Is installing a drain in their contract? If it is, get their asses back to finish the job - or take them to judge judy.
we have mushrooms in our garden at this time.
not abnormal
first, if they said they were going to install drainage, they need to follow through with that. As for the mushrooms, there must be some decaying wood in the area, that is why the mushrooms are growing there... very common on new building sites were trees have been removed... the shrooms will not hurt anything, they are just helping the wood decay.. there is no way of getting rid of them... they will go away once the wood is decayed enough
its quite normal to have mushrooms growing in new turf it depends on what quality of turf you've got but normally mushroom spores come from the soil mixture there grown on. They sometimes only grow for one season until the grass has adjusted to the under soil, which on a new build can be pretty crap and sometimes they come back every year.
It might have something to do with this moist spring we are having. Our lawn also has mushrooms, more than in other years.
We have just laid new turf in our back garden and i have noticed mushrooms growing through, apparently its not a problem and it shouldn't happen next year, according to the bloke at our garden center.
We had the same and actually mushrooms only grow in damp places, so get them back to put that drain in. We have a very boggy lawn and know that a drain is needed to combat this. How very lazy of them not to continue what they promised! Also ours is so boggy that in winter its like a paddy field and if you have kids they will bald it right back to just mud. And a lot of moss grows in damp places so unless you want a naff lawn after paying so much, id get their butts back to fullfill their promise!
It may be the builders used some spent mushroom compost as a soil improver before they laid the turf. That would explain the mushrooms. Please be very careful to ensure that they are mushrooms before you decide to have a fryup.
