How do I keep squirrels from digging on my newly planted pots?

Question:I just planted 21 pots in my yard for the spring/summer. I also have close to 10 "resident" squirrels among the 4 oak trees in my yard. I love the little guys and I would not want to harm them but they keep digging on my newly planted pots, causing substantial damage to the new plants. What to do?

Answers:
One suggestion is put rose bush vines cut in pieces in the top of each one.
Another one is to put chicken wire over the plants when you first plant them and let them grow up through the chicken wire. This may not help you this year but keep it in mind for next year.
That I how I keep my cat out of mine.

Chicken wire around the top of the pots or get feeders for the little guys so they won't need to dig.
shoot them with a toy gun :]
