How do I get rid of these darned fruit flies?
Question:They are congregated around my kitchen sink. I have a gang of them to deal with, and saying shoo.doesn't seem to do anything.help!
Answers:
1. Step One Clean your soda cans or put them in a sealed bag. Flies love beer and soda, so doing this can really help.
2. Step Two Make a flytrap by putting a small amount of red wine in a shallow dish, cover it with a plastic wrap, stretching and holding it with a rubber band. Pierce some holes on the cover. Attracted to wine, flies will crawl in and would not be able to escape. You may use banana or apple cider vinegar as a substitute to wine.
3. Step Three Combine 1 pint milk, 1/4 lb raw sugar and 2 ounces ground pepper in a saucepan and simmer for 8-10 minutes. Pour it in a shallow dish and watch the flies attack and consequently suffocate.
4. Step Four Pour 1/4 cup white vinegar and a pinch of liquid dishwashing detergent in a cup. Slowly, add water till the bubbles reach the top of the cup. Fruit flies will be attracted and trapped to death.
5. Step FiveSpray the house with diluted lemongrass oil. Only 10 drops of oil work well with 2 ounces of hot water. This can kill not only fruit flies but also spiders, ants and other creepy crawlers.
6. Step SixHang fly strips with both their sides exposed to flies. They will stick and perish.
have you tried insect repelant?
They're probably breeding in the drain. It's just the collecting moisture. Bleach bleach bleach. Flush the whole sink with bleach and really clean it well. If you can, let it dry completely for a whole day. If your faucet is drippy it is keeping the moisture level up.
put honey in a jar
Clean your sink really well. Clean the counters around the sink with a bleach solution. Pour some beach (a tiny bit) down your disposal.
Hope this helps.
I had this problem... I cleaned my sink and the entire surrounding area with straight bleach. Then I dumped some bleach down the drain. The next important thing is to constantly wash the dishes and not have anything left out on the counter. Even if it is just a knife that you used to spread butter on toast. Wash it immediately and put it away. That took care of the problem in a day.
wash the dishes, clean all surfaces (counter, table, etc), pour bleach down the drain. throw out any old fruit, take trash out and clean trash can.
if you have any plants in the room make certain hey are not over watered. empty any excess water from saucer under plants.
do not set out the homemade traps. sometimes those things encourage the pests. simply clean well, empty standing water and the little nuisances will be gone before the sun sets.
hope this helps.
