Is poisonous snakes a major problem in rural communities in New Mexico or Arizona?

Question:

Answers:
Yeah, they are there! You have to understand how they live. During the sunny part of the day, they like shade. So they could be under shrubs, porches, in junk piles, etc. When it's cool, they need the sun to warm up, that's when you see them out in the open, stretched out.

You learn to look carefully when you exit a door because they can sun themselves on porches. And they do climb up steps.

Many rural properties will have walled in courtyards that are "snake proof" ...hopefully. But any gopher hole into the courtyard allows snakes entry.

They are very sensitive to sounds so if they feel you/hear you they will often scoot away. When startled or cornered, that's when trouble occurs.

The babies are just as vemonous and the adults and quicker to strike.

Snakes will tend to be in greater number if there is a food source such as mice. Since mice often congregate around rock piles, wood piles, junk, so do snakes.

Personally, I really don't like snakes which is why I'll never live out there, though it is beautiful.

Well, if you go hang out where they hang out: where its hot and dry, near piles of old wood and debris you might run across a few.

Otherwise, no, they are no worse there than anywhere else I know. In all fairness to the snakes you really couldn't say they are a major problem. No.

Don't go a-courtin' trouble, honey.
