How can I control acorn growth?

Question:We have 2 huge oak trees in the yard. They are very pretty but drop zillions of acorns every year. It makes no sense to try to pick them up as they fall as it would be a full time job and would never end. In the spring and early summer (now!) they all sprout and again, as many as we pull up tomorrow there are that many more. Is there a technique or herbicide to use that will discourage acorns from sprouting/minimize growth/keep the tree from producing acorns, etc.? It's impossible to maintain a nice lawn with these oak trees sprouting everywhere. I love the trees for the shade but it's hard enough to grow groundcover (grass or otherwise) besides having these bloody acorns everywhere when we do get growing grass.

Answers:
I wait until the acorns have all fallen and then rake up as many as possible and throw them away. Some years the trees are full and others it has hardly any. If they do start rooting they get mowed down or weed whacked.

No I don't think so. Great but messy tree. More squirrels
