Which kind of ivy is best for climbing a latice?

Question:I live in San Jose, CA and I'm trying to decide which kind of ivy would be best for climbing a latice (for privacy) in a mostly shaded environment. A variety that's not too messy would also be nice.

Answers:
English Ivy

Most ivy will do well on a latice. A variety with large leaves, often called Algerian Ivy (Helix caneriensis), will quickly cover a latice, and since it has large leaves the cover will be thick. It does quite well in the shade. In fact it will grow anywhere. English Ivy (Hedera helix) would also work well. It is the more typical looking ivy. It has smaller leaves. It does not do quite as well in the shade though.
