Answers:
Hi I work at Dunscar Garden Centre in Tarleton Preston Lancashire. http://www.dunscar.com We stock Bird of Paradise plants and can deliver by courier.

I got mine from the Home Depot, but you sound like you live in Britian so I would try their B & Q stores that have a nursery.
I got mine in Tenerife
The bird of paradise is a glorified banana plant.

You can buy them in various sizes from here

They are lovely arnt they, Ive only seen them as seeds from a catalogue. But try the website :- Vals unusual plants.com they have very fast delivery .
These are getting more and more popular and most large garden centres are selling them now. Buy as mature a plant as you can afford as they can take years to flower. I managed to grow one from a seed and it flowers every year now, twice a year sometimes but it was at least 5 years old before it flowered. Don't be tempted to repot it too often, they flower much better when pot-bound. Good luck.
B & Q in our Town in Worcestershire have plenty, also The Range and our local nurseries.
They are called Strelitzia.
I've bought a couple of imitation flowers which I stick in the pot when the real ones aren't flowering!
They need plenty of pot room to grow and love warmth. In Madeira they are everywhere and the height of small trees.
Try googling, botanical name is strelitsia
I tried to grow one of those, my Daughter bought me some seeds back when she went on holiday, but it did not come to anything,
you can buy one at any good garden center or they would be able to order one for you. or you could try to buy one on line.
