I think Beefsteaks are the best. However Bestboys are easiest to grow.
Hi Wayne
The biggest size tomato isn't necessarily the best. Those beefsteak-type ones can get ginormous, but are often ugly and misshapen, and tend towards blossom-end rot.
My absolute favorite is the Heinz tomato. It's medium-size, uniformly red, perfectly shaped, and most of all----delicious! It's also very productive.
I highly recommend it.
the best tomatoes that i've heard of are in the *mountain * varieties. mountain fresh and another one that i can't think of . they r very disease resistant and can fall on the ground and not rot. it may be worth a try.

I actually grew some 2 pound tomatoes. Beefmaster or Beefsteak are the varietys that can get that big. I also notice in a seed catalog called "Totally Tomatoes" that they have one called Big Zac that gets rather big.
Without knowing where you live, it is not possible to guess which tomatoes will grow best where you are. For example, my growing season is too short for Beefstakes. Also, I would never plant a tomato without knowing its late-blight resistance. Lots of big tomatoes on the vine are no good if they all rot before they ripen!
