Question:as mentioned it is growing half white and half green the whole thing has buds on it. Will the tomatoes be ok to eat? will they be different?

Answers:
Would you be able to send a picture?
Are the tomatoes half green half white? If so you may have a differnt variety of tomato than you thought, or it could be disease.
are the leaves half green half white? There is no variety of tomato that has half white and half green leaves (which I am picturing). White on the leaves could be sun scorch.

This is normal with half white and half green tomato plants and they are quite edible. The actual tomatos will be red when ripe.
