Dumb question about vertical gardening?

Question:This year I have put my tomatoes and summer squashes in chicken wire cages measuring 6ft. high, 30" diameter. My dumb question is how am I going to harvest them when they become ripe?

Answers:
Chicken wire doesn't give you much room to reach through, and being 6 ft high, you will have a bit of a time trying to reach down to get the plants. Here is my suggestion.

1) Cut a section out apporximately 8 inches by 8 inches to allow you to reach in the cages. Start this about 1 foot from the bottom of the cage, and space vertically every 18 to 24 inches.

2) Save the cut out section.

3) Get some wire, and wire-tie the cut out sections back into place. Basically, make wire-tied hinges on one side and a wire-twist latch on the other side to close the opening. Think of it similar to the gate/opening of a rabbit cage or bird cage.

Good luck.

:) you should be able to reach through the wire to get them... or they should and might grow through the wire... or worst comes to worst... you will have to remove the wire everytime you want to pick them :)
