What could this slimy white stuff on my house plant's soil be?

Question:Lately (the past few days or so) some patches of white and sort of translucent blue has appeared on the soil surface of one of my house plants. I have owned this plant for a number of years but have never seen this substance before on it. I repotted the plant a couple of weeks ago in a plastic pot with potting soil. I touched some of the substance and between my fingers it felt sort of slimy/creamy, with no distinctive smell. Should I worry about this? I'm quite fond of this plant.

Answers:
it's a fungus. yuk. soak the plant, gently remove the plant and it's roots from the soil, rinse the roots and bottom of the stalk thoroughly, and repot in a new pot and new soil. throw away the old soil and put the old pot out in the full sun for a month or more. that should do it. and avoid overwatering your plant from now on. just give it the bare minimum of water once you've given it its thorough transplant watering.

im not sure what this could be but maybe bugs could cause this?? Just please dont taste it!! -_-
Maybe some kind of pathogenic organism, or fungus, that could contribute to a disease that the plant is having or it will soon have... since you have owned the plant for few years, maybe the fungus have developed before or you have done something on it... well, before putting it on another pot, check the pot, the soil, the plant itself, and other factors like the place where you have put the original pot (maybe the sun, rain, animals around there and others)... then wash the plants carefully, we don't want to destroy the plant, right... observe it for several weeks and if there's nothing bad that happened to it, take care of it as you usually do, but if you did found something weird on the plant, you may ask for help... choose mine as best...
