Jerry Baker has a book on products to make your household lawn green. I was looking up his formula the other day.
It's something like:
1 cup of ammonia (for nitrogen)
1 cup of corn syrup (to help in break down of old dead grass)
1 can of regular (not lite) beer (helps in break down of old dead grass)
1 cup of dish soap, normally regular Dawn, non-antibacterial for handwashing dishes (to clean dust off grass so it can absorb nitrogen and lawn food)
1 cup of liquid lawn food
That is one of his tonics. Some other items I've seen him use is baby shampoo and a juice he calls tobacco tea. Where he takes chewing tobacco and mixes it with water. The book is called Green Grass Magic and you can buy it online from http://www.booksamillion.com for about $10. It's about 300 pages just on the topic of grass. And there are a lot of household formulas in it. It's helped my lawn look a lot better this year. Although I still have a descent way to go on mine.
Oh yeah, another thing you can use is epsoms salts. It helps add magnesium to the ground. You can also mix it in with some water and spray it on bell peppers and it will help green them up. Bell peppers need magnesium to keep the leaves green.
