I planted Green Mountain Boxwood shrubs last fall. They turned yellow over the winter and have not recovered.

Question:I water them every other day. The leaves are soft so I know that they aren't dead.

Answers:
I'm not sure where you are located. It very well could be winter burn, which they will recover from. However, all of the leaves should not be yellow, just some of them.

If all of the leaves are yellow, that is not good. I would not necessarily water them every other day unless you are in a hot, dry area.

If you think there is some hope that they may come around, I would suggest applying some Hollytone. It is a type of fertilizer, but more importantly, adds acidity to the soil, which boxwoods like. Depending on where you planted them, the soil may not be right, and the plants are yellowing since their roots are now reaching that soil. (6-8 months is the most common time frame for newly planted evergreens to die).

I could help you a little more if I had more info. Email me if you want.

Good luck!

You need to make sure that you plant with either vermicast a.k.a. worm castings or else GOOD QUALITY potting soil. These soils time-release water and nutrients to your plant to make sure they get what they need when they need it. They are also LOADED with nutrients for your plants and flowers. You can find this stuff at www.1800TOPSOIL.com or by calling 1-800-TOPSOIL. They're national, so they probably have someone local who can deliver. Good luck!
