Are parasol mushrooms poisonous? How can I tell it apart from angel's death?

Question:There is a circle of parasol mushrooms (or at least that's what I think it is) in my front yard. On the internet it says that angel of death mushroom looks alot like some edible mushrooms. Even if you just eat a little bit of angel of death mushroom, you will die within a few days.Thanks.

Answers:
Parasol and Shaggy Parasol (Macrolepiota procera and M. ranchodes) are two of my favorite. The problem is they have a poisonous look alike Chlorophyllum molybdites that is capable of redefining the term 'bowel movement'. Before eating any wild mushroom, find an old fart like me or someone even older and smarter that doesn't fart as much to be your mentor. Remember there are old mushroom hunters and bold mushroom hunters but no old and bold mushroom hunters. I've nibbled on various poisonous mushrooms to taste and spit out with no harm, it's actually a way of identifying some of the bad ones. Find an area mycological society or mushroom club in your area for more info, they're more common than you might think. RScott

Are you contemplating suicide? That's the only way I'd eat a wild mushroom. Just not worth it. Stick to the store bought kind unless you find someone who REALLY knows what they are doing.
