Answers:
Seeding, or waiting might take too long alleviate your father's irritation . Sod it . Use a sod stripper, or cut it into ~ 2' x 1 1/2' sections with an edger, & strip it with a hoe or shovel , if you don't have a stripper . ( I'll post pic. Your father might have one , & as you apparently don't use those kind of tools, might not recognize it. ;D ) The soil part of sod is 3/4" thick, so work accordingly . Dimensions are usually 18" x 6',( a "yard"/" roll") so the work will go more quickly if you strip 18" wide area along the tire tracks (why the above stipping instructions were 2' x 18")

Smooth the dirt in the affected area, so that there are no noticeable humps or holes.Get the sod ,( ~ 3$ / roll) & roll it out .Use a knife to cut it where needed . Just like carpet, but easier.! ;D Water it thoroughly . Put a sprinkler on it for 1/2hr - 1hr/ day , for ~1 month . After that , when needed . It starts rooting in 3-4 days, and in 3-4 weeks it'll seem like it's always been there . Even though it looks like a "project" in writing, in actual practice it's quick and easy . And you should be better off in your relationship with your dad, especially if your friend helps (I'd insist).

thanks for the points tosser
If there are bare spots go get some seed and sprinkle the seeds on the bare spots and water lots, if there are no bare spots and it is just smashed grab a rake and rake the oppisit direction and water lots, grass is pretty hardy and will bounce back.if you have to reseed it will take about a week, if your just rakeing to get it to stand up again it will only take a couple days but make sure it gets plenty of water.
Rough up the damaged area with a rake. Then sprinkle a mixture of grass seed, mulch, and fertilizer on it (you can make your own mix, or buy a bag that's already mixed). Keep the area moist, but not soaked (run a sprinkler twice a day).

In just a few weeks, you'll have lush, green grass growing where you're messed up friend messed up your dad's lawn.
If it is no deeper than 1", just wet the area good with a garden hose, wet enough that you can mash the ridges back down with your foot, but not so muddy you can`t walk it out. Wait a few hours, then rinse off the mud from the grass, so the grass doesn`t die. Nature (and gravity) will level it out every time it rains. If your dad isn`t happy with that, fill with dirt and reseed.
smooth out the high spots, fill in the low spots with fresh topsoil, throw some grass seed on it and lightly rake it in, cover with a thin layer of peat moss and keep it moist till the seed sprouts in about 10 days.
