What makes a lawnmower engine run erratically?
Question:I recently bought a brand-new Troy-Bilt push mower with a 160cc Honda engine. For the most part it runs fine, but from time to time the engine becomes erratic, {as though it's racing), before dying altogether. After this, it's pretty much impossible to start for the next 10 mins and then can only be started with great difficulty. I did wonder whether this is because I am just using cheap 87 octane gas. Do small lawnmower engines work better with higher octane fuels? Or can anyone think of any other likely causes for this problem? I know that the fuel is not contaminated - new fuel bought recently and stored in a new, clean gas can.
Answers:
Thr changing the spark plug. They tend to go bad often. Be careful to not tip over the lawn mower either as the oil will run into the piston. Dont over fill the oil either as this will oil fowel the plug.
Not sure what the problem is myself. But it's a good brand mower with a top-of-the-line motor.
Take it back to the store right away and tell them the problem. It should still be under warranty.
You are using the correct gas, though. Any higher octane fuel will burn too hot, causing damage to your engine and voiding your warranty.
When I had a similar problem I first thought it was the gas then it just turned out the choke was sticking - just try jiggling it a few times to unstick it.
SOUNDS LIKE THE CHOKE.but if you bring it back to store itll prob... work fine.you know the cliche
Sounds like the filter needs to be changed or cleaned and check the spark plug. They do not last long.
