Has anyone put up their own privacy fence and if so is it very difficult?

Question:We have a small yard and are wanting to put up a privacy fence and want to try and save money by doing it ourselves HAHA! Is it worth our while to try and tackle it. We are no Bob Villa by no means but was just wondering.

Answers:
rent the auger! i used to build fences and decks professionally and it will save time and your back.
make sure when you set your posts that they are no further apart than 7' 6". that way your 8' stringers will always be long enough. when you get to hanging you pickets level them no more than every ten boards. leveling less will help immensly when it comes time to cut you rip boards. hope this helps. good luck

rent an auger to dig the post holes will save you big time

dig more then you need and fill in those not used

while you have plant a couple trees
b-4 you do anything, have you checked the building codes in your city/county. do you need to get a permit and are you sure that you will be putting up the fence on your property, not your neighbors? I agree rent the auger but you need to check the laws for where you live. such as types & heights allowed. would hate to see you do all that work yourself and then get sued by the neighbor or fined by the authorities and then spend your time/money to tear it down and replace it within code.
Make sure you find out where all the lines are on your property. My hubby hit a dead line because he did not call "the man" before he dug. It could have been very costly to us if he had damaged lines.
