New raspberry bushes growing without berries, or weeds?

Question:I inherited a raspberry patch last year and had 2 great harvests of berries in the Summer and Fall. I experimented last Fall with trimming a few bushes all the way to the ground, a few I cut half of the plant off, and some I left alone. This year I have many plants that look older with new berries growing and there appears to be many new plants growing throughout the garden with thorns on the stems and leaves that look similar to the mature plants currently growing berries, but no berries on these new ones. Will these not produce fruit until next year, or is something else growing that is mimicking my raspberry plants? Thanks for any advice!

Answers:
Most raspberry plants don't flower until their second year, so they could be new raspberry bushes. Also, raspberry roots can spawn growth of new bushes. If the new plants are withing a few feet of your old bushes, take them and that part of the propagating root out so they don't crowd the older bushes.

soz i have no clue why it is doing that... best of luck ;) ♥
I am a novice to raspberry growing but followed horticultural instructions. Cut out completely current years growth. New growth with produce berries next year. Worked for me, hope it helps you.
in agreement with previous answer -- it generally takes two years to get fruit from a new sprout. I don't know if all varieties are like that. We generally thinned out the new shoots and planted some of them in other areas that didn't have berries.
Yes, It's kind of like apple trees, when you prune the trees, the new growth will not bloom until next year, the new stem has to have time to mature first!
