Help growing strawberries, please....?

Question:I'm growing strawberries for the first time. The new plants are putting off runners. Is there anything that I should do to help them take root? Should I make a small divot in the dirt for the runner? Thanks in advance.

Answers:
They do not need much dirt on top. You need to decide how far you want them to go. You must make some kind of border with maybe plastic borders and then add dirt inside the border. Give them lots of room if you can. Put some straw on top of everything in the fall, when thay are done. In the spring, try to weed it somewhat. If they look thin, buy a few more plants and put in the thin spots. If it is hot and dry when they are just starting to make little berries; water. Mine were in a corner and the runners came up on the other side of an old sidewalk. The first three years were the best, now i do not have the same production. I think its because i have not weeded well and have not added dirt on top,(i can see lots of roots).

Unless you're soil is extremely hard, you need not do anything. If there are any weeds that would hold the runner off the ground, they should be removed.
They'll be fine I grow mine on the front side of my house they grow very fast. The 1st year 6 plants 2nd year 21 plants lol
place the runners in the row with the current adult strawberries. It is these offshoots that will produce the best berries next year.
