I have 3-4 foot split leaf maple tree in a large pot. The ends of the foliage is turning brown/crinkly.Help?

Question:I ha e sprayed for bugs with Sevin but not helping. Could it be too much sun?

Answers:
By "Split leaf" do you mean Japanese Maple ? If so, you unknowingly answered your own question . They are sensitive to many chemicals. The Sevin probably burned the leaves . Also , being in a pot will dry it out quickly . Not an ideal situation for Japanes Maple . They are edge-of-the-woods trees . Is it in full sun, &/or in an open location exposed to the full force of the wind . That will dry out the leaves , even if the soil is moist . Could be sun &/or wind burn . Just have to pay close attention to the watering, & move it if need be.

depending on how long it has been in the pot, the tree may be root bound (the roots start to circle the inside of the pot). This makes it hard for the roots to do their job of getting moisture and nutrients to the foliage.

If this is the case, and you find a spot to put it in the ground, make sure you dig a square hole. then when the roots try to "circle" they will hit the corner and start digging through the dirt.

If your foliage is overhanging your pot by 2 or more feet, I would guess it is rootbound.
