How can i identify the various plants in the yard of the house into which I just moved?

Question:

Answers:
When my husband and I bought our house 8 years ago, the former owner had plants all around the house. I had no idea what most of them were. I went to the local library and got some books with good pictures and descriptions of plants. I was able to identify most of the plants this way. You could also take pictures of your plants and take the pictures with you to a local garden centre. They just may have the very plants you want to identify. If not, the staff may be able to identify them for you. If you know any gardeners, ask them. Close neighbours might be able to help also.

Ask neighbors.

Take branches to your local garden center. They're usually happy to help.
Knowing your planting zone will help for you to search pictures on the internet. Also a trip to your local nursery might help, ask questions.. I'm sure they'll be happy to help you! Enjoy your new house & yard!
Close up photos to a garden center are the best. I worked in one for years and believe me a dried out branch you sat on in the car for a week is not easy to ID. I had a lady come in one time with a dried out blossom 3 years old that she brought home from Ireland. Thankful she had a photo--it was a rhododendron. Your local library would also have plant books on your area and you could look in them.
.Take a walk around your neighborhood and see what they have planted in there yards. You can ask them what they have and then ask if they would like to help you identify the plants in your yard. This way you not only find out what you have growing but you also get a chance to meet your new neighbors. Plus come spring or fall when they start cleaning out flower beds you will have another source of plants to add to yours. This is how i got my daisy garden going and my shade garden.
