Part of of my Mirabell cherry tomato plant is blossoming and fruiting, but the newer growth, is now wilting.?
Question:Is this normal? I am a first time gardener, and while some of my plant is growing like crazy and doing well, another part of it seems wilty. I've been watering regularly for the most part, it gets plenty of sun. We did have a 5 minute hail storm last week, and although it was mostly sheltered, it could have gotten hit some. Any ideas?
Answers:
Check the stem that's wilting for breaks or insects - it sounds as though that part of the plant isn't getting the nutrients it needs. I have one in my garden that's doing the same thing - I think a deer stepped on it while munching on its neighbor. One thing about tomatoes is that even if most of the plant is broken off, new stems will come up from where the leaves join the main stem. These are called "suckers" and will form new growth if not broken off.
