Can anyone tell me how to identify male cucumber flowers?
Question:
Answers:
When successfully pollinated, the female flower produces the cucumber fruit. It is easily identified by a miniature fruit at the base of the flower.
The male flower sheds its pollen and then falls off the plant.
The male cucumber flowers is just a yellow flower with no mini cucumber behind it. Only the female flower has a mini cucumber. On modern hybrid English cucumber plants, there are only female flowers, because the males are not needed for the fruit forming, they are only needed when one needs seeds. The older hybrid varieties have both male and female flowers on the plants, and in this case it is advisable to remove the male flowers as they appear, unless one wishes to have pips (seeds) in the cucumbers.
