Can I install sod over top soil which covers soil with sand and gravel in it?

Question:We have a lot of old pea-sized gravel and some sand in our yard and we'd rather mix it into our current soil instead of removing it before adding topsoil and sod. Any issues?

Answers:
Absolutely, in fact what you have below your sod will go along way in helping establish a good root system. The soil needs to be able to leach to a degree, so as not to keep the new roots in constant standing water. The rocks will keep the soil open and allow it to drain.

as long as you keep it watered so it can establish itself and don't cut it short you shouldn't have a problem i have a carpet for a lawn in worse conditions than that
No problem. In fact with the gravel, sand mixture, it should improve drainage. Just level off ground, and put sod on top. Butt lawn sods up together, water well, and wait.
Good Luck!
I would mix it thoroughly with dirt, then tope with a good layer of top soil. Then you shouldn't have any problems with sod. You might want to put in a sprinkler system before the sod. Everyone, I have every talk to wished they had after they lay new sod.
Good luck.
