How to properly take well care of Orchards. Please my mom won't leave me alone..?
Question:My mom is obsesses with her garden, and would like to know how to properly take care of Orchards. She keeps bugging me to find information online.
So will someone be kind enough to tell me how to properly take care of orchards Also, if you can be easily informative because i have to translate this to her in Spanish.
She will like to know:
1)How many times a week should she water them?
2)How long does it take till they grow?
Answers:
Depends on the climate you live in, my dad used to have them and always only watered them once a week, (more in summer), they benefit from a long soaking once a week rather than watering everyday. They love a shade house with fairly dark shade cloth, I have planted them straight in the ground, but they tend not to flower until root bound in a pot. After flowering you can divide the bulbs. Tell mum to get a good quality Orchid fertilizer/food, read the instructions but they will need food probably 3 times a year. They can take years to grow, so its a labor of love.
Well, your best bet is to drive her to the local nursery where tehy will tell her about what grows in your zone, and how to best care for it.
It will be fun for her, as a garden lover she will love to visit a nursery, and you'll be there available to translate anything and everything she wants to talk about!
All depends on what type you have general rule of thumb is water once a week, good drainage, high light, but not direct sunlight, outside they do better under a shade tree, fertilize every monthe, they are usually slow growers, go online and check what type you have, alot of sites to help.
