Mint plants indoors?
Question:i have fresh mint growing in my garden and would like to take some indoors before winter. do they grow well indoors? any specific details on how to care for them would be appreciated.
Answers:
Mint should be fine indoors - needs a big pot and keep soil fairly moist, put by a window so it gets lots of light. When you pot it, make sure you get a lot of root as they're quite rambling.
Presuming it's for using (tea, cooking etc) cut it just above where you see other leaves budding then these will grow out.
(I wouldn't have thought it'd do well in a sauna! Surely that would be to hot and damp. Mint doesn't come from a rainforest.)
Mint does not overwinter inside. It should, however, return in the spring. If it is planted in a pot, it should be placed out of the wind and weather (such as on a patio). I tried overwintering mint in my sauna/hot tub room, and it died and didn't come back.
Look around for a product called "garden in a bag" which contains everything you need to grow herbs inside. I'm holding mint in my hand right now, so I know they make it. The bag lists their website as: www.pottingshedcreations.com
I suspect you may find this at your local garden center as well. There are other companies that make similar products, or you could always grow the mint from seeds yourself in an pot.
